DENIN Affiliates are faculty members, graduate students, research professionals, and community members who are actively engaged in environmental research and scholarly activities.

Dr. Cristina Archer, of UD’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, is a DENIN Affiliate.

Being affiliated with DENIN shows a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and join research and education teams. Affiliates are able to acknowledge their association with DENIN in their academic work and CV.

Affiliates will be added to the DENIN affiliates database and will be kept informed about research funding opportunities, as well as being invited to seminars and events hosted by the Institute. Individuals have the option to either apply to become affiliated with DENIN or be invited to join.

Affiliate Benefits

  • Grant proposal and administration. DENIN’s team of experienced staff provides mentorship and administrative support to develop and manage large, interdisciplinary grants. DENIN currently manages over $10M in grants from a variety of funders including NSF, DoD, ERDC, and NOAA.
  • Research network. There are currently over 250 DENIN affiliates with research expertise across fields, disciplines, and geographic areas. Through this growing network, DENIN connects researchers and community partners to do the complex, community-engaged work that environmental problems require.
  • Working groups. Affiliates can propose working groups around an environmental topic. Accepted working groups will be provided with seed funding, administrative support for organizing meetings and drafting white papers, and access to a list of DENIN Affiliate experts.
  • DENIN Faculty Fellows. Affiliates who are faculty members at UD can apply for the bi-annual Faculty Fellows program, which provides support and resources for research initiatives in line with DENIN’s mission.
  • Opportunities to communicate science and success. Our email campaigns reach nearly 500 people a week. Affiliates can request to add content to the email campaigns, as well as to DENIN’s social media and website.

Affiliate Expectations

  • Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects when they align with the affiliate’s interests, professional goals, and schedule.
  • Write one blog post or social media post every two years.
  • Share professional accomplishments and news with DENIN staff to communicate through the DENIN website and social media.
